Well if you hadn’t heard or guessed, the weather has put the event in the can.  Rain on the course surfaces and more rain falling and forecast to be continuing during the week has caused the cancellation of the event.  You can see more details on the SCTA website home page. As they say in their cancellation statement: “…this year at Bonneville, Mother Nature holds the records.”

While frustrating, I will gladly defer to the judgement of the SCTA officials in their determination that being able to produce a good racing surface was very unlikely.  This is coming from people with 20 and 30 years of experience and wanting an event to happen as badly as the racers (seeing they are racers themselves).  Not having everyone come out and  then cancel is infinitely preferable, although the time spent with our group is always an experience.   We did drive all the way out there once in 2011, go through tech, then load up and come right back home. So now we are looking forward to next year…

What took three days of checking off the lists, packing into containers and then into the trailer took about two hours to undo. The long bike will stay in the trailer until after the Slimey Crud Run on October 5, and probably after that due to the need for room in the shop to convert the fueler to drag racing trim again.   I must admit I am a little deflated and need a bit of sort-out time.  Maybe that is why tomorrow I go to Byron Dragway to help Arnie Heller try to sort out his funnybike.

The bike, all ready before loading. Now it will have to all come apart before going down to Valdosta. We'll still have a chance to test the new tail!
